Asus Disney Netbook Laptop Review
The design is simple and ideal for children, curved edged design, rounded edges and an integrated battery. Incorporated into this is a 8.9” inch screen which offers bright colours and a matt-TFT finish which is ideal for greasy, mucky fingerprints. As a result of a mechanical reinforced chassis this notebook can withstand some rough handling and will also allow parents to retain some control over the content their children access.
Developed with parents and children in mind for instance on start up you can choose between the standard Windows XP interface or a custom theme aimed at kids, the latter including large and easy-to-use icons and simple games, ideal for the younger user. The Disney theme doesn’t stop there either, it runs throughout the chassis and even the webcam is shaped like a Mickey Mouse head, the attention to detail is impressive. The Disney user interface has more than 40 robust parental control options which are accessible through the XP interface.
Even though the machine itself seems to be something of a gimmick it actually offers surprisingly good quality even for a child. For us the keyboard was small, but perfectly formed and for those with smaller hands and fingers will be ideal.
Including an Intel Atom N270 with a processing speed of 1.66GHz and featuring integrated Intel GMA 945 graphics chipset more than adequate for individual tasks including all of the child orientated software featured.
Boasting more USB ports than an Apple iMac, three in total, a VGA port, a MMC and SD slot as well as a microphone and headphone ports, an impressive array for a childs laptop.
Even though the Asus Disney notebook offers nothing new in terms of technology of innovation it is certainly the ideal notebook partner for any young child and with integrated wireless and Ethernet it will be easy to connect to home or school networks.
With this great range of specs, design, performance and price parents should consider this laptop as a serious contender to be the companion of their young child. It is everything required of a laptop, with parental controls, for a child and beats forking out for a standard notebook and buying parental software.
