Asus Eee PC S101 Laptop Review

Normally the Eee Pc is seen as a novelty netbook something that hasn’t quite matured, until now. However it seems now that Asus have finally created a sexier, lighter, more appealing netbook.

Okay, it might be slightly more expensive then its predecessors but its standing up against some of the big boys, such as the Sony Vaio TZ series

Where to start? The design of this new netbook is stunning, unless you don’t like brown or glossy lids. The Asus Eee Pc 101 has both, a brown glossy lid which may sound a bit horrific but in actual fact is amazingly appealing to the eye.

Not have Asus just re-designed it but they have even changed the chassis that they normally use for their netbooks. This new and improved chassis is thinner and lighter than any used by Asus before. In total the netbook weighs just over a kilo and measures in at 266mm by 191mm by 29mm.

Now when it comes to keyboards on a netbook things seem to usually go down the drain. However Asus have proved us all wrong. The keyboard is large enough to accurately touch type. Yet with being a smaller netbook there have to be some sacrifices and in this case it’s the Enter key that gets it.

Instead of being the larger square shape that you would find on normal netbooks this Enter key is rectangular. Yet live still goes on. The trackpad is normally the target for miss positioning or being of the wrong shape yet it seems Asus have nailed this too. The trackpad is large and easy to use and on top of that it is placed in such a way that it avoids accidental contact whilst the user is typing and.

The Asus Eee Pc S101 comes packed with ports. On the left hand side you have three USB ports and on the right you’ll find the audio ports, the SD/MMC memory card reader, the D-Sub video output, the Ethernet port and the AC power inlet.

The 10.2 inch screen is pleasant to use with a 1,024x600 pixel resolution. One thing most people and me in particular are pleased about is, that Asus haven’t given the screen a glossy coating. Due to this the S101 can be successfully used indoors and outdoors without having to constantly dodge your own reflection.

Overall it seems that Asus have created a dazzling netbook. Its battery life may only be three and a half hours, but it comes packed with ports and all the other gizmos you’d need. It may be slightly more expensive then its predecessors but unlike its predecessors this netbook has style, performance and an overall better rating.
