Dell Alienware M15X Laptop Review
With the re-design of the Alienware M17, along with some notched up internals, it was just a matter of time before a smaller, more compact, notebook followed suit – the Alienware M15x.
Not only does this laptop have the similar, arguably ugly, menacing looks as the M17x in the form of the grille and coloured backlit keyboard, which brings back memories of your grans knitted Christmas sweaters, but it can be fitted with an Intel Core i7 processor which will cost you £1,060 extra. However, the entry level Alienware M15x comes with a Intel® Core™ i3 Processor 330M.
Of course, just like all of the Alienware machines, they do not come cheap. Nonetheless, the Intel Core i3-330M, the cheaper processor for the M15x, is a lower-middle class dual core CPU for laptops and clocks with 2.16Ghz, fast enough to multi-task without any lag or the processor choking up. However, the Core i5 (costing between £90 and £160 extra) and the Core i7 (costing between £290 and £1,090 extra) are a bit faster because of the higher maximum clock speed of the GPU.
The variations of cost come about due to the size of the memory cache. However, a typical GPU with 512MB of memory, costing between £75 and £150 will last relatively long and support most if not all of the latest games. The more expensive cards which come with between 1GB and 4GB of memory are for the more intense gamer and will be more than adequate to support even HD gaming and 3D gaming, anything above the 3/4GB threshold are for the more intense gamers using multiple screens, 3D settings and detail maxed out.
