MSI Wind Laptop Review
MSI have followed the trend of making small, light and cheap netbooks. The MSI wind is stylish and is also packed with power and best of all is only about ₤330.
The Wind is pretty and like usual it can be bought in an array of colours, I would advise people to pick the darker colours as to avoid attracting dirt and dust to your netbook.
It looks good and is packed with power but it is also very easy to carry around. It weighs in at 1.1kg with a 6-cell battery and 0.1kg less with a 3-cell battery. Along with that it measures in at 260mm x 19mm x 180mm.
Now many people may be asking why this particular netbook has the extra weight is because of the integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam and a microphone and it also has a 10.1” screen. MSI have declared that nearer the end of the year they shall release an MSI Wind with an 8.9” screen, so those who enjoy small then you’ll have to wait.
Another benefit of a relatively large chassis is the keyboard. The MSI can accommodate a large keyboard, not is it just large but is also comfortable – a benefit when writing documents.
Unfortunately though MSI haven’t created a large trackpad and it is unnecessarily small. Seeing that the MSI Eee series has a very clever and practical trackpad it seems stupid that the Wind doesn’t come with an equally smart trackpad.
For such a small netbook it packs a punch. The 80GB hard drive provides enough room for nearly 20,000 MP3s – enough space for most music collection. The screen may be relatively small but is good enough to watch a movie comfortably and if you wish you can output the video signal via the D-Sub port. There is also a SD card slot, along with a MMC, 3 USB ports, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and mic and headphone ports. Along with all of this it also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Unfortunately though the netbook is not that well equipped and the graphics are to be quite frank lame. It gets worse, like most portable laptops you would expect a long battery life but MSI Wind only lasts around 2 hours.
Overall the MSI Wind is a fantastically designed mini laptop also known as a netbook. For a netbook this size and with these specifications at this price isn’t bad at all.
