Sony Vaio VPCEE2E1E/WI Laptop Review
The Sony Vaio is your casual everyday partner featuring an impressive 15.5” inch widescreen including 16:9 aspect ration perfect for watching films on which can be conviently stored in a great 320GB hard drive, big enough to fit sixty 4.4GB DVDs.
The top features of this Vaio are its AMD Athlon Dual-Core processor, with reasonable processor speed of 2.1GHz and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics. The onboard graphics chip shares the memory of the laptop, a down side if you were looking for a dedicated graphics chipset, it is based on the HD 3400 graphics core and features that UVD 2 video engine capable of decoding HD videos.
The Radeon 4250 offers a similar performance to the Radeon 4200 but the power consumption is slightly better. The UVD 2 video engine to also able to decode HD videos including MPEG-2, H.264 and VC-1 in all stages and allows the fluent playback of HD videos, with a low CPU utilization, great for when you’re stuck on a long train journey.
Unlike the HD 3200 the first onboard graphics card that allowed the fluent playback of blu-ray videos the UVD 2 in the HD 4250 supports the decoding of two videos streams simultaneously and therefore blu-ray is fully supported.
The graphics core of the HD 4250 stems from the Mobility Radeon HD 3400 series and is therefore DirectX 10.1 capable therefore older games, and may I add classic games, such as Doom 3 or Quake 4 should be barely playable.
Along with reasonable graphics chip set is is a DVD Re-writer Drive perfect for watching DVDs at anytime and with top image quality and gives you the option to create your own DVDs or CDs, whether for music, video or copying files. The notebook also features a 320GB Hard Drive with easily enough space for your software, files and multimedia collection.
Furthermore, the VPC-EE2E1E/WI features the latest AMD Athlon II Dual-Core P320 2.1GHz Processor and 3GB Memory. Together, these offer the performance to efficiently multitask, run advanced software and get the best from day to day computing.
The laptop also features a 0.3 megapixel motion eye webcam for video chat using software such as Skype or for your casual snaps of the family.
The VPCEE2E1E/WI has a wide variety of useful connections including four USB ports with one of the them doubling up as a high-speed eSATA connection. In addition, there is an HDMI output for connecting the laptop to an HDTV and enjoying HD content on a bigger screen, plus there are Memory Stick and SD Card slots for quick and easy file transferring to and from memory cards.
The VPCEE2E1E/WI features a keyboard with tiled keys and optimum spacing for comfortable, accurate typing, plus you get a full size numeric keypad for convenient data entry.
There is also a handy WEB button above the keyboard that lets you quickly go on to the internet without the notebook needing to fully boot-up – saving time and battery life – a great piece of innovation from Sony.
The Vaio VPC-EE2E1E/WI is a top notebook with a lot to offer, you get the usual quality and performance associated with Vaio models as well as great features such as the WEB button and impressive hardware. However, even though the graphics chipset is capable of decoding HD and blu-ray content Sony could have notched it up a little and given the laptop better gaming capabilities.
