Intel have announced net profits of £935 million for the third quarter of 2007, a 43 per cent rise on the previous year. The increase in profit can be attributed to the surge in demand for its laptop microprocessors , triggering a sharp upturn in revenue, up 15 per cent at nearly £5 billion for the third quarter.
Intel, the world's largest computer chipmaker, have unveiled optimistic projections for the next quarter, declaring they expect to see a further increase in profits for the next quarter. Intel President and Chief Executive Paul Otellini has reportedly gone on record as saying "We are very pleased with the results and optimistic about our business".
The results are all the more pleasing for the American firm given the troubled start of the year the company endured, as financial results suffered from a price tussle with rival Advanced Micro Devices.
