Intel, the world’s leading
computer chip manufacturer, announced it will begin offering the
management and
security features found in its vPro platform with the company’s new
Centrino Pro
microprocessor technology.
The
company released a statement, which stated the vPro platform would be part of its next-generation Centrino
technology - now called ‘Santa Rosa’, which will include a combination of the 64-bit Core 2 Duo processor, an 800MHz front-side bus, 4MB of L2 cache, and a new graphics chip .
No specific
date has been announced for the release of the Santa Rosa technology, however
Intel did say it should be due sometime in the second quarter, this year.
Executives at the firm agreed that it was the right time to offer vPro for
notebooks and
laptops, especially with the
work force becoming more
mobile . Intel promises the technology will boost security and make
PCs easier to manage .
Vice president of Intel Mobile Products Group, Mooly Eden, "This is an ideal time for this product as we continue to see notebook penetration
rates increasing in
business ."
Intel first introduced vPro technology a year ago, April 2006, with the intent of offering a series of management and security features in a single platform that would help IT administrators remotely manage an enterprise's
fleet of
desktop PCs, while offering a way to reduce costs.
