Intel, the
computer chip maker, has demonstrated
Wireless Management Capabilities and Turbo
Memory Technology for the next generation of
laptops and
notebooks .
According to the
company, Turbo Memory Technology has halved the reboot time in some PCs.
It is believed that the
Centrino Pro platform will consist of the next-generation
Core 2 Duo processor . Moreover the
PC is equipped with an integrated 802.11n wireless connection, Intel's 82566MM and 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection, and optional Intel Turbo Memory. Furthermore, the platform will subsequently be refreshed in the first half of 2008 with Intel's 45-nm, high-k dual-core
mobile Penryn processor.
The company claims that by using flash memory rather than the traditional hard drive it will reduce the time to load the operating system and boot the PC. Tests show that it takes 18.1 seconds to close every open application and 39 seconds to completely reboot and restore the previous system state during a live test.
David Perlmutter, Intel's senior vice-president and general manager of the Mobility Group said, "If you look at any access to
data that is not in memory, it is a slow operation because the system is turning the send clock off and on while you wait."
The company explained that Centrino Pro laptops will have the capability to support the Web Services Management (WS MAN) standard. The PC will also include Active Management Technology (AMT), and will filter and reduce the spread of viruses. The system will also adopt the
Desktop Mobile Work Group specification for interoperability between PC
hardware and
software .
Pat Gelsinger, Intel’s senior vice-president and general manager of the
digital enterprise group said, "It provides out of band management using wireless, which allows support staff to remotely diagnose the system and hardware configuration, push down the latest
security upgrade then reboot the system as well."
