Last week saw
Toshiba launch its new
carbon emissions scheme, offering
laptop purchasing
customers the chance to offset the carbon emissions incurred by the use and
manufacture of the laptop. Customers wishing to subscribe to the scheme can take up the option offered by Toshiba to donate £1.18 at the point of
purchase, which will go towards a
tree planting scheme in Cumbria.
It is latest in a long line of green schemes announced by IT firms, with leading
PC manufacturers Hewlett Packard and
Dell already offering similarly environmentally friendly schemes. Dells Plant a Tree For Me is almost identical to the scheme offered by Toshiba, whilst HPs various green schemes include the use of
solar power,
wind power and
renewable energy .
