Intel has launched new a technology that makes use of a thermochromic material which lowers the temperature of
laptops and
notebooks, solving the problem of laptops overheating.
The
company is looking to patent the material which uses light to sense when the
computer starts to overheat and automatically pulls back on the power to bring the temperature down.
The way the system works is that the laptop skin is coated with a thermochromic material that changes colour in response to temperature changes. An integrated lamp continuously illuminates this material. Sensors monitor changes in the colour of the material and triggers the
software to activate a
fan to cool down the things.
Laptops that become quite hot risk a
hardware failure or even a hardware crash. Heating can leave hot spots on ‘power-hungry’ components of the hardware causing uneven heating inside the laptop.
It also is not good to keep a laptop on your lap when it is hot. It has been proven that overheating in extreme cases may cause
injury and can lead to a reduction in male fertility.
