Acer has announced its target to overtake Hewlett Packard as the leading laptop seller by 2011. Acer's purchase of Gateway saw it overtake Dell as the number two in terms of laptop sales for 2007. Lenovo's president Gianfranco Lanci has forecast a growth of 40-50 per cent in terms of sales, culminating in an increase of revenue. Having made $14 billion in revenue last year, a growth is predicted this year with $18-$20 billion of revenue forecast.
The world's third biggest PC maker denied reports that they would be selling low cost laptops as early as the first quarter or start of the second quarter. Acer stated that they are still working on the plan and would not be giving an exact time scale.
