Asustek has revealed their sales have been hit by a shortage of laptop PC batteries . Following a fire at South Koreas LG Chem has put supplies of lithium-ion batteries at a premium, and with production halted for at least a few more months, PC manufacturers have been hit hard. Asustek estimate they would have reached their target of 5 million unit sales early had it not been for the shortage, and although they feel they are still on course to meet their target, they would have otherwise been able to improve forecasts.
Asustek has shipped an estimated million units of its Eee PCs since the start of the year, with the low-cost laptop designed for children in developing countries. Asustek have begun to focus its sales attempts in Europe, with 40 per cent of global sales now in Europe, and that figure is expected to rise to 50 per cent by the end of the year.
