Hewlett Packard have become the latest major technology firm to enter into the small laptop market. With Intel and Asustek recently investing in the specialist sector, Hewlett Packard are to begin retailing their Mini-Note which is designed to expand their market share in schools.
The Mini-Note has an 8.9 inch screen and weighs less than 3 pounds, with a Via Technologies microprocessor of up to 1.6 gigahertz. The notebook doesnt include an optical drive for CD-ROMs and DVDs, though HP claim this was requested by some schools who believed it would allow students to play unauthorized games.
The Mini-Notes main rival will be Intels Classmate PCs and Asusteks Eee PC, and to an extent the One Laptop Per Childs XO laptop, though that is primarily marketed for developing countries.
