Intel have combined with several notebook manufacturers to produce anti-theft technology designed to protect information on stolen laptops . Companies including McAfee, Lenovo and Fujitsu are involved in developing the technology. Based on Intels Manageability System, the secure processing system ensures both the processor and the laptops content is inaccessible to unauthorized users, thus locking the system and protecting data.
Intel have so far been cautious in releasing details about the technology, though the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) have said it will be released in the fourth quarter of 2008.
There have been a series of high profile losses of data in recent times after laptops or confidential discs were lost.
