Fri, 04 Apr 2008
According to recent reports in the laptop news, the government has lost over 1,000 laptop computers since the year 2000. The computers have been lost from all sorts of departments, with some performing worse than others.

The true picture of lost machines has become clear in recent months, as different Whitehall departments have admitted that they have misplaced computers, some of which held valuable or secure data .

The MOD have lost some 347 laptops since 2004, one of which had details from 600,000 people on. The Department of Health has lost 150 laptops, the Ministry of Justics 136 and HM Revenue and Customs lost 45 in a theft in 2007.

Department of Children, Schools and Families has lost 84 laptops and four desktops . Many further departments have fared equally badly. The level of laptop computer losses raises questions over government security.
