Microsoft Corp India and HCL Infosystems Ltd are to release the worlds cheapest Windows enabled laptop as part of a new set of joint ventures. The new laptop will be released as part of HCLs MiLeap series at a price of 16,990 Rupees (£216) and is part of an agreement between the two companies to promote the use of IT in India for the next two decades.
The agreement will see 500 software professionals working for Microsoft in India, and will benefit an estimated 50,000 students over three years. In addition to helping Indias IT industry retain its competitive edge, the news is particularly pleasing for the Indian government given the need for skilled computer workers as a result of the countrys new found status as a leading outsourcing destination.
