Dell Update Laptop Ranges
Wed, 20 Aug 2008
Dell has unveiled its new series of Latitude and Precision laptops, citing the laptops’ long battery lives as one of their best new features. Dell claim the laptops each have a battery life of up to 19 hours, with Dell’s senior vice president, Jeff Clarke, claiming that long battery life is one of the four criteria consumers look for in a laptop . Mr Clarke claims the other three criteria are better security, good design and ease of use.

The Latitude E5400 is the entry model to the range, priced at $839, though the Latitude E6400 will stretch the budget considerably more, setting you back $2,399. Mid-range options are also available, with screen sized varying from 12.1 inches to 15.4 inches.

The laptops have been designed with the assistance of thousands of users and testers. Dell used 3,200 prototype test units in the trial process, with over 1,000 testers adding to the 4,000 users of the Ideastorm website who offered feedback and ideas.

Amongst the laptops’ other features are an intelligent backlit keyboard which adjusts to ambient light levels, whilst the Dell Latitude ON software allows access to email, calendar, attachments and contacts without needing to boot up the operating system .
