Fri, 08 Aug 2008
Computer manufacturer Lenovo has announced significant increases in sales and income for its first financial quarter of the year. Lenovo’s income for the quarter ending June 30th was $110 million – a 65 per cent increase on the previous year’s first quarter income of $67 million. The increase in income was driven by the company’s excellent sales performance, with sales up by more than 10 per cent on the previous year at $4.2 billion.

Laptop sales have been cited as the driving force behind the company’s performance, with sales of the portable units reaching $2.4 billion – up by 17 per cent on the same quarter in 2007. More impressively, laptop shipments increased by 33 per cent on the previous year. With desktop sales also up by 3 per cent, Lenovo’s PC shipments increased by 15 per cent – in keeping with the average growth in the PC industry.

The company’s American division maintained their level of sales, bringing in $1.1 billion, whilst their Chinese unit was extremely successful, with sales totalling $1.7 billion in the region – a 22 per cent increase on the previous year. The EMEA region saw a 26 per cent growth and the Asia Pacific region experienced an 11 per cent growth.
