Toshiba have unveiled the world's lightest laptop weighing just 1.08 kilograms. The Portege R500-S5007V is 0.25 kilograms lighter than Lenovo's Thinkpad X300, and 0.28 kilograms lighter than Apple's MacBook Air. At just 1.96 centimetres at its thinnest point, Toshiba are lauding their latest product as truly ultraportable .
Toshiba claim that the laptop's battery can last for up to eight hours, as the absence of any moving parts helps the laptop to consume less power. The laptop is accompanied by a 7mm DVD SuperMulti Drive and a 128 gigabyte solid state drive. It has an inbuilt 1.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Chip as well as a transreflective backlit LED screen, but is expected to cost around £1,500.
The Portege R500 is Toshiba's latest attempt to update their laptop range, having launched their most powerful laptop series yet - the Qosmio range - as they seek to regain ground in the global PC markets. Acer's surge has harmed Toshiba's progress, though Toshiba have declared their intent to expand in unexploited areas such as the Philippines.
