New figures released by International Data Corporation (IDC) show that Hewlett Packard remains the leading force in the global PC market. HP enjoyed a total of 50.5 million unit sales, giving them 18.8 per cent of the market, comfortably beating Dell to top spot. Dells 40 million sales gave them 14.9 per cent of the market. As predicted, Acer moved into third place with more than 21 million shipments and 7.9 per cent of the market, edging out Lenovo who sit fourth with 20.2 million units sold and 7.5 per cent of the market. Toshiba came in fifth with 10.9 million shipments and 4.1 per cent of the market.
2007 saw global PC shipments increased by 14.3 per cent, with a particularly steep growth in the fourth quarter. Acer enjoyed the biggest growth of any vender, with shipments up by a remarkable 60 per cent, largely due to their purchase of Gateway . HP continued to display a trend of expansion with a growth of 23.3 per cent, though Dell still managed a growth of 17.1 per cent.
