One Laptop Per Child Offer Ends
Thu, 03 Jan 2008
The One Laptop Per Child’s ‘Give One Get One’ promotion has ended after the organization decided to extend the offer after signs of success. Whilst some customers had decided to participate in the offer, One Laptop Per Child founder Nicholas Negroponte claimed many others had asked for the offer to be extended, either so that either themselves or groups to which they belonged could partake in the promotion.

Mr Negroponte also intimated that there may be a similar offer available during 2008, though it is not yet confirmed what the offer will be. It seems likely that the scheme will create a function whereby people are able to donate $200 and send a laptop to the relevant country.

Negroponte and co will be hoping for a better 2008 after a 2007 in which the organization was plagued by problems. The rising cost has not helped create a positive media image, whilst the law suits and widespread scepticism has tested the commitment of those behind the project.
