With the One Laptop Per Child organization hoping for a better year, the signs are promising following the projects biggest order to date. Peru has placed the biggest order of any developing country, requesting 272,000 notebooks to aid its primary education system. Some of the laptops have already been used in classrooms in Peru, with the benefits already there to be seen.
The laptops have enabled children in each country to chat online, whilst the wealth of information brought by a laptop has reportedly given children a wider range of ambitions. Perus order of 272,000 dwarfs the previous biggest order by a developing country which had stood at 100,000 from Uruguay. However, the laptops have continued to be the subject of controversy, with their $188 price tag belying the $100 initially advertised.
