Micro Star to Launch Low Cost Laptop
Mon, 02 Jun 2008
Micro Star International have announced plans to launch an ultra low cost laptop in America by June. The company’s Wind laptop will retail from $399 (£200), though another version will be offered at a price of $549 (£225). Both versions of the laptop have an 8.9 inch screen, a 1.6GHz Atom microprocessor and an 80GB hard drive . However, the cheaper version will run on Novell Inc’s SUSE Linux operating system whereas the more expensive laptop will run on Windows XP . The $399 laptop doesn’t have wireless data transfer using Bluetooth and comes with less dynamic RAM and 512MB rather than the 1GB of the XP laptop.

The Wind laptop therefore has the advantage of a larger screen size than its competitors and an 80GB hard drive rather than a flash memory based drive. The $549 version of the laptop also comes with a six-cell battery, rather than the cheaper laptop’s three-cell battery, giving it a longer battery life than many competing laptops .

The laptops are available in a number of colours, including black, pink and white, whilst there are optional extra for buyers not needing to keep costs down.
