American consumer electronics manufacturer Apple appears to have taken a stronghold of the US higher education market, having surpassed Dell in terms of laptop sales. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology Investment Symposium earlier this week, Apples chief operating officer Tim Cook revealed further evidence of a successful 2007 for Apple as he revealed the company have outdone rival Dell in terms of sales of portable machines to US higher education.

While the success can be largely attributed to Apples innovative design and all round resurgence, Dell has suffered from a series of problems, including volatile batteries and failure to meet delivery dates.
