Dell’s venture into the lucrative
laptop business has begun badly with a number of their Vostro laptop series shipped with misconfigured
keyboards . Having begun shipping the new Vostro
laptops on April 15, it has since been revealed that some of the Vostro 1310 and 1510 laptops’ keyboards have an extra key on the keyboard – a forward slash between the left hand shift key and the Z key.
A company spokesperson refused to comment on how many laptops had been shipped with estimated keyboards, but did confirm some shipments could be delayed as laptops with misconfigured keyboards are corrected.
It is a blow to
Dell, who had looked to increase its laptop portfolio by 50 per cent this year. With
Hewlett Packard firmly ahead in first place in the laptop market, Dell should perhaps be more concerned by the rapid progress of
Acer .
