Hewlett-Packard have unveiled their TouchSmart tx2 laptop the first HP consumer laptop to feature multi-touch technology. The laptop is being dubbed as a more sophisticated and consumer friendly tablet PC, offering users a dynamic interaction experience as they can use the laptop on the move, swivelling the 12.1 inch screen as they wish and using a variety of gestures to activate the laptops functions.
The Mediasmart technology features Internet TV content from MTV Networks, with clips from a variety of channels. The Mediasmart technology updates the content regularly, typifying the software edge the TouchSmart has over its rival Latitude XT from Dell .
HPs Director of Consumer Notebooks, Jonathan Kaye, said, Its not just the hardware or the software, but its the combination of the two. Were taking it to another level. With multi-touch, it makes it more fun and more engaging, beyond what you can do with a mouse and keyboard.
The laptop will cost $1,149 and weighs under 4.5 pounds, though is unknown how consumers will react to the product. It has been dubbed as a bigger iPhone in some quarters, though following the failure of tablet PCs, it remains to be seen how the product will fare.
