Hewlett Packard Unveil Multi Touch Laptop
Wed, 19 Nov 2008
Hewlett-Packard have unveiled their TouchSmart tx2 laptop – the first HP consumer laptop to feature multi-touch technology. The laptop is being dubbed as a more sophisticated and consumer friendly tablet PC, offering users a dynamic interaction experience as they can use the laptop on the move, swivelling the 12.1 inch screen as they wish and using a variety of gestures to activate the laptop’s functions.

The Mediasmart technology features Internet TV content from MTV Networks, with clips from a variety of channels. The Mediasmart technology updates the content regularly, typifying the software edge the TouchSmart has over its rival Latitude XT from Dell .

HP’s Director of Consumer Notebooks, Jonathan Kaye, said, ‘It’s not just the hardware or the software, but it’s the combination of the two. We’re taking it to another level. With multi-touch, it makes it more fun and more engaging, beyond what you can do with a mouse and keyboard’.

The laptop will cost $1,149 and weighs under 4.5 pounds, though is unknown how consumers will react to the product. It has been dubbed as a bigger iPhone in some quarters, though following the failure of tablet PCs, it remains to be seen how the product will fare.
