Asus Laptop Wins Gadget of the Year Award
Wed, 17 Sep 2008
The Asus Eee PC has been named as the gadget of the year by Stuff magazine. The 2008 Stuff magazine Gadget Awards ceremony was held at London’s Dorchester Hotel and saw the Eee PC fight off competition from the iPhone and several games consoles to take the award. Stuff suggested that the low cost laptop could herald ‘the beginning of a laptop for everyone era’, claiming that ‘no other gadget had the impact the Eee PC did this year. Now, for less than £300, you can get a fully functional laptop with enough power to do pretty much any tasks you ask it to do’. The award was one of the fourteen voted for by Stuff’s panel of executive judges, though there were an additional six decided by consumers and readers.

The iPhone secured the Reader’s Gadget of the Year Award, whilst the new Sony Reader took the Reader’s Innovation of the Year Award. The Apple MacBook Air won the Design of the Year Award, and in an eco-friendly era, the Ego Electric Street Scoota won the Green Gadget of the Year Award.
