Microsoft Attack New Apple Laptops

October 20, 2008

Microsoft have sent an email to its customers dissuading them from buying an Apple, as Microsoft begin to adopt negative tactics to keep its surging rival at bay. The email was circulated on Monday evening and was titled, ‘Why You’ll Find Better Value in Windows PCs than Macs ’. The email preceded Apple’s conference at which they unveiled their new range of laptops, as they sought to tempt more of the market with their combination of price cuts and attractive design.

Microsoft’s email centred around their assurance that Windows PCs provide greater power and features for a lower price, whilst also suggesting that Macs come with a hidden ‘Apple tax’. The tax, Microsoft claim, arises due to the need for new Apple customers to spend an alleged extra $1,000 on new software for their Macs.

The email was followed up by another message on Tuesday evening containing a colourful chart highlighting Windows PC configurations at comparable, or lower, prices to those of the new MacBook and MacBook Pro . Microsoft’s email even confidently asserted, ‘Bottom line: you’re going to get a great Windows Laptop with a lot more, at a lower price than any MacBook. Period.’
