Acer has unveiled its rival to the
Apple MacBook Air and
Dell Adamo, but at half the price. The Timeline
notebook starts at £500 and weighs just 1.6kg, though the higher spec
laptops will weigh more, costing up to £650. The
notebooks are less than 25mm thick, have an
Intel Ultra low voltage Core 2 Duo
processor with a choice or a 13.3 inch, 14 inch or a 15.6 inch LED backlit widescreen, each of which is capable of displaying up to 1366x768 pixels.
Acer describes the timeline models as having reached a delicate equilibrium between
computer lightness and battery life.
The
laptop has a 4 gigabyte DDR3
memory and boasts either a 500 gigabyte traditional
hard disk drive or a 64 gigabyte solid state drive. Timeline
PCs also come with a HDMI and D-Sub connector, a webcam, three USB ports, a multitouch trackpad, SPDIF, a card reacher and 802.11n
wireless internet connectivity. The
computers will operate on
Windows Vista Home Premium OS.
The latest release of laptops follows the news that Acers Aspire One range was the most popular
netbook last year, with subsequent improvements allowing customers to use the netbook for 10 hours with a solid state drive and 8 hours with a
hard disk drive.
