Electronics manufacturer
Samsung has revealed their targets for
notebook computer sales this year. Having sold 2 million
notebooks later year, the company is aiming to more than double that, with a target of 5 million
laptop PC sales. The company forecasts also revealed ambitions to improve their market share in the global sale of
laptops to 15 per cent, which would see their position in the sales rankings increase from 10th to 7th by the end of 2009.
Netbook sales account for a huge 4 million of the total sales target, with Samsungs strategy reflecting the view of the industry that the ultra-portable and cheap
netbooks will prove extremely popular, yet still provide
internet capability. Vice President of Sales and
Marketing, Uhm Kyu-ho, commented that despite the uncertainty in the global economy, he was confident of the general outlook in the small to medium size global notebook market.
If Samsung are able to achieve their targets, they should have a handsome profit margin following a 10 per cent increase in prices. It should be noted, however, that the increase in price partly accounts for the rising DRAM prices, as supply dries up.
