Dell has axed the
Mini 12 from its
netbook line-up, just a few months after it was made available.
The Mini 12 was pulled over the weekend and the company will now focus on promoting smaller-screened products, including the
Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and the Mini 9 models.
Writing on the
Dell corporate blog, the manufacturer confirmed that it took the decision to end production of the Mini 12 because the majority of consumers are more likely to be interested to 10-inch
netbooks rather than larger and less portable 12-inch systems.
"It really boils down to this: for a lot of customers, 10-inch displays are the sweet spot for netbooks," the company said. "That's why we offer two different 10-inch
Inspiron netbooks - Mini 10 and the Mini 10v."
"Portability is one of the key points for netbook customers. Larger
notebooks require a little more horsepower to be really useful."
The blog added that the move will have no effect on "Dells commitment to the netbook space".
The Mini 12 netbook is still available though
Dell outlets in the US, but only while current stocks last.
