PC manufacturer
Dell has revealed that retailer
John Lewis will have exclusive rights to selling its latest luxury
laptop – the
Adamo XPS. Dell have traditionally only sold their
computers direct to consumers, though the top end department store will now stock the
ultra portable laptop in the build up to
Christmas . Dell believe that the audience they are appealing to with the Adamo XPS are more likely to
buy a laptop that they can interact with prior to purchase, and feel that John Lewis attracts the right type of customer.
The Adamo XPS costs £1,750, so is firmly located in the luxury laptop category. Powered by a 1.4GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo ULV processor, the Adamo stole the crown of the world’s thinnest
notebook from its illustrious rival, the
Apple Macbook Air. The Adamo XPS comes bundled with
Windows 7 Home, has 4GB of RAM, 128GB of solid state drive storage, a 133 inch
high definition WLED screen, a 2 megapixel webcam and Bluetooth.
The Adamo XPS is by no means the first
Dell laptop to be stocked by John Lewis. Having abandoned its direct selling strategy a few years ago, Dixons and
Tesco have also sold
Dell PCs . It remains to be seen how the luxury laptop will cope with the challenge of cheaper
netbooks this Christmas.
