A recent survey has suggested that
Apple make the most reliable
laptops of any
notebook manufacturer. Although the company performed less well in ratings for reliability and service compared to last year, the
MacBook was voted better than average in six out of nine categories in a
PC World survey much better than any other
notebooks . There was, however, a higher than average incidence of problems with failed components for the
MacBooks . Despite this, Apple still fared better than any other
laptop maker.
Acer,
Dell and
Sony laptops also received a positive appraisal, with Acer and
Sony notebooks said to be reliable, and Dell offering an improved customer service than in 2007. Respondents to the survey were less impressed with Dells service in replacing failed parts, however. Lenovos performance was said to have slumped from 2007, receiving only one better than average mark for reliability, compared to last years five.
Hewlett Packard once again finished last in the survey. The worlds largest PC vendor was given six below-par scores, but has promised to try to shorten telephone support hold times.
One third of the respondents to the survey have experienced significant hardware or
software problems with their laptops, though
desktops were found to be equally unreliable.
