The
Carphone Warehouse is to give a free
laptop to each of its sales staff who complete a
wireless training camp. The offer applies to its estimated 5,000 retail staff, 1,000 support stuff and 400 online sales staff. With each
notebook worth £360, the market value of the overall promotion is £2.3 million.
The aim is to ensure their staff are well informed about wireless devices with a view to securing a high volume of sales. Staff will be paid a normal days wage for the training days, which began at the start of this week and will be conducted over the course of the next six weeks with 60 events in total.
The
laptops will be given to staff who pass a text at the end of the day, with store managers expecting to see a high pass rate from the highly incentivised staff. It is not yet known which brand the laptops will be, but the offer appears to be an extension of boss Andrew Harrisons ploy to make 2008 the year of the laptop by giving away laptop
PCs and
notebooks as part of mobile
broadband bundles.
