New figures out show that one of the biggest areas of consumer complaints was about
laptop computers while complaints about
internet service providers fell.
According to Consumer Direct the advice organisation overseen by the
Office of Fair Trading, many more people had problems with laptops in the first half of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008. There was a 39 per cent increase in consumers unhappy with their laptops,
notebooks and
tablet PCs .
Surprisingly complaints about
mobile phones were down by 35 per cent but 7847 people were dissatisfied with their
new laptop purchases.
Gordon MacDonald, manager of Consumer Direct Scotland said, "A large proportion of customers are complaining about defective goods, so it's important that people know they have rights and may be entitled to claim free repairs, replacements or refunds."
However the biggest area of complaints was
second-hand car purchases with over 25,000 complaints in six months.
In total 414,000 complaints were made to the organisation this year, down by 3 per cent in 2008.
