Dell has unveiled an online service allowing consumers to customise and personalise their
notebook computers . Design Studio is being launched in the UK and offers buyers the choice of up to 200 exclusive designs. Traditionally, customers have been able to specify the level of
memory and type of processor they wish their
computer to have, though this has been elaborated on in recent times.
Vice President of
Sales and Marketing for Dells global consumer business, Michael Tatelman, spoke of this trend. Mr Tatelman said, It used to be processors and
software that people specified when buying a
laptop . Now they can pick from over 200 designs commissioned by
Dell .
The Design Studio service is available for Dells Studio 15 and 17 laptop
PCs at present, with prices ranging from £29 for plain colours to £69 for more eye catching and extravagant designs. In the future, it may also be possible for users to submit their own artwork, though Mr Tatelman believes this to present its own problems. He said, Many people ask about user-created designs but it's difficult to decide what's right and wrong.
