Hewlett Packard Announces Wi-Fi Laptop Partnership

May 22, 2009

Hewlett Packard has announced it has teamed up with Wi-Fi providers The Cloud to offer customers free wireless internet on selected laptops . Hewlett Packard’s B-range and P-range notebooks, as well as its mobile workstations, will now be accompanied by a year’s free Wi-Fi access on The Cloud’s UK network, a package the company claims is worth over £100.

The computer manufacturer believes the deal will prove popular with small and medium sizes businesses who employ 500 or fewer employees. The cheapest eligible laptop PC is the Compaq 6735b, costing £529. Once purchased, the service can be activated by registering online and downloading the client software which automatically connects the notebook or mobile workstation to the internet when in range of one of The Cloud’s hotspots.

David Wright, Vice President and General Manager of HP’s Personal Systems Group in the UK and Ireland, said, ‘We know through talking to our customers that anywhere, anytime connectivity is high-up on the business agenda in order to help maximise productivity, but connectivity comes at an added cost. This innovative proposition demonstrates HP's commitment to our SMB customers by giving them access to the largest network of Wi-Fi hotspots in the UK absolutely free of charge.’
