Chinese
PC manufacturers Meng have unveiled the world’s
cheapest laptop . The EasyPC will cost just $80 and uses an ARM-based processor from Samsung. The
laptop has
WiFi capability, an Ethernet LAN port, two USB ports and a 2,000mAh battery. The
netbook also has 128MB of RAM, 2GB solid state drive storage, and an SD card slot which can boost flash storage by up to 32GB. The mini
notebook also supports YouTube and Skype.
The EasyPC is expected to operate using
Microsoft Windows CE, though it is rumoured to be compatible with Android, making it a versatile laptop that could be considered an
ultra-mini PC, a smartbook, a laptop or a netbook.
The
operating system market is becoming increasingly competitive, with Google launching its Chrome OS for
netbooks in a matter of weeks according to reports. The new operating system purports to improve boot up times and improve
internet speeds. It has been developed in conjunction with
Acer,
Adobe,
Asus,
Hewlett Packard,
Lenovo and
Toshiba . While it will take a while for the Chrome operating system to be capable of challenging the dominance of Windows, it has certainly caused a stir in the market.
