Laptop
warranty providers SquareTrade have announced that
Asus and
Toshiba are the most
reliable laptop manufacturers. The findings have been revealed as the
insurance company today posted figures of the failure rates of each major
laptop manufacturer which they offer cover for.
Netbooks were found to be the least reliable form of portable
PC, with the netbook failure rate 20 per cent higher than for
notebooks . Even high end
laptops succumbed to reliability issues, with one in five premium
notebook PCs likely to break down inside of three years.
On average, one in three portable PCs needed replacing within three years. Two thirds of these were caused by manufacturer faults, while the other third was attributed to accidental damage.
Apple were voted as the most reliable laptop manufacturer in a survey earlier this year, though they were fourth in SquareTrade’s figures, one place behind
Sony . Surprisingly,
Hewlett Packard performed worst in terms of reliability, with one in four of their laptops in need of
laptop repairs within three years.
Dell occupied fifth spot, with
Lenovo,
Acer and
Gateway behind them.
The findings are likely to encourage more PC owners to consider
laptop insurance .
