Toshiba has devised a new scheme aimed at encouraging consumers to buy a
new laptop . The
computer manufacturer has launched a
recycling scheme whereby customers buying a new
Toshiba notebook with
Microsoft Windows 7 may trade in an old
laptop and receive up to £150. Customers thinking of purchasing a new
PC as part of the scheme can fill out a form online providing details of the spec and condition of their old laptop. They will then be given an offer for their old PC, and if they accept they will get a discount on a new laptop purchase.
The old laptop will be collected Toshiba’s partner company Tier 1 Asset within 10 days of purchase, who will then safely wipe all of the data and
recycle the parts of the old laptop. The laptop will be reused if its condition allows, though
laptops in poor condition will be disposed of without any parts ending up in a land-fill.
The new scheme has suffered one or two glitches already though, with a large number of consumers reporting offers of £0 for their previous laptop – a problem
Toshiba have promised to fix. The scheme follows news of several other laptop manufacturers such as
Hewlett Packard cutting the price of
notebooks with Windows 7 included in a bid to boost sales.
