Asus has announced it is to launch two
netbooks which will run on the new
Microsoft Windows 7 operating system . The Eee
PC 1005HR and the Eee PC 1005HE will both be powered by an
Intel Atom 1.66GHz N280 processor, have three megapixel webcams,
WiFi and
Bluetooth capabilities and have either a 160GB or 250GB
hard drive . The mini
laptops will also both have 10.1 inch displays and significantly, the HR
netbook will boast 1366x768 resolution, becoming the first
Asus netbook to exceed 1024x600.
The new netbooks are the latest updates to the
Asus Seashell range, and come at a time when many
computer manufacturers are holding fire on releasing new
netbook PCs as they wait for the next generation Pineview Atom processors from Intel, which are expected to be available from January.
The netbooks have 1GB of RAM, causing some analysts to challenge whether the small
notebooks will be able to cope with the demands of the
Windows 7 operating system. Asus has only included the Windows 7 Starter Edition
software, which does not include the Aero user interface or
DVD playback software .
Internet Explorer 8 will be the default browser on the netbooks.
