Dell has unveiled its latest ultra thin
computer, the Latitude Z600. The new
notebook incorporates the much anticipated inductive charging feature, using a stand rather than a cable to charge the
laptop . The recharging process is similar to that of an
electric toothbrush, whilst the optional custom docking station has a number of other benefits. The custom docking station allows the Latitude Z to wirelessly access audio jacks, a DVI video link and USB ports, as long as the
PC is located within 9 feet of the docking station.
The Latitude Z600 will face stiff competition, however. Weighing 4.5 pounds and at just 0.55 inches thick, the laptop will be competing with the
Apple MacBook Air . The laptop has a 1600x900 widscreen resolution, and has two central processing unit options from
Intel . Users may choose from the ultra low voltage
Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor providing 1.4GHz, or the ULV SU9600 processor offering 1.6GHz. The laptop comes with
Windows Vista already installed.
The
Dell laptop won’t be cheap, with prices starting at $1,999. The stand and docking station will set consumers back a further $400.
