Intels new ultra-low voltage processors will pave the way for even thinner
laptops, Intels vice president has claimed. Mooly Eden, who is also the general manager of Intels Mobile Platforms Group, spoke of a slim, sleek package that would contain a new balance between performance and power consumption.
Consumers and business professionals will soon be able to run several intense applications on the new ultra-low voltage based laptops at the same time. In addition, owners of the sleek
notebooks will be able to use the Mobile
Intel GS40 Express Chipset offering HD playback, integrated HDMI and
Windows Vista Premium support. Battery life will also benefit as a result of the new processors, whilst users will be able to choose between embedded
broadband WiMAx and Intel My WiFi Technology, providing
internet capability when on the move.
There has been a growing clamour for smaller, more
portable laptops in recent years. The rapid rise to popularity of
netbook PCs is evidence of this trend, with
PC manufacturers unable to ignore the market whilst even
mobile phone operators such as
Nokia are attempting to gain a slice of the profits as they diversify their portfolios.
