Nokia is to enter the
laptop PC market with the launch of its
Booklet 3G netbook . The
portable computer will be powered by the new
Windows 7
operating system, but fears have been raised at the pricing of the netbook.
Nokia have priced the Booklet 3G at around £500, despite some rival netbooks retailing at around half that price. With consumers able to purchase
notebooks for less, analysts have said they expect the market to be very small for the Booklet 3G.
Equipped with HD functionality via an HDMI port, the Booklet 3G is a high end netbook, boasting a 1280x780 resolution on its 10 inch screen. The netbook has a
battery life of up to 12 hours, and comes equipped with Nokia services such as Nokia Music for
PC, Ovi Suite 2.0, Ovi Maps and
GPS capability, whilst
Internet Explorer 8 is the default internet browser. The in-built accelerometer is able to detect the orientation of the device, whilst the netbook has a 120GB
hard drive and 1GB DDR2 RAM.
Nokias entry into the
laptop market follows several consecutive quarters of falling profits. With rival PC makers entering the
mobile phone market, Nokia have perhaps had little choice but to broaden their range of products.
