Google Announce Likely Mini Laptop Price Point
Wed, 21 Apr 2010
Google chief executive Eric Schmidt has revealed that netbooks operating using Google Chrome OS should cost between $300 and $400 when they are released later this year. Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Hewlett Packard and Toshiba have all signed agreements to manufacture netbooks running the Google operating system, and Mr Schmidt expects the netbooks to have a price advantage in the market as the free provision of Google Chrome OS and Google Android avoids incurring software tax .

Acer is expecting to be the first laptop manufacturer to release the much anticipated Google Chrome netbook later this year, though not everyone is buying into the furore surrounding netbooks. Chief Operating Officer at Apple, Tim Cook, commented that he couldn’t think of a single thing that netbook PCs do well, while Steve Jobs recently insisted that netbooks are just cheap laptops . Analysts are divided as to whether the Apple iPad should be considered in conjunction with the netbook, though Mr Cook described it as a ‘no brainer’ to compare the iPad with the mini notebooks .

The iPad has encountered a number of issues since its launch, including problems accessing the internet via WiFi .
