A new anti-virus product has been launched specifically aimed at netbook computers . Many anti-virus programmes place considerable demands on the processing capabilities of laptops, and indeed desktops, meaning the mini notebooks may not be able to cope with the simultaneous running of these programmes with other functions such as email and internet . The new Titanium product therefore protects netbooks against viruses while minimising the demands place on the PCs processor.
Titanium is available for £25 and is said to be suitable for home consumers as well as small businesses. Vice President for Europe at Trend Micro, Anthony O’Mara, described the software as easy to install and use powerful protection. The ‘widget like interface’ allows consumers to customise the software to their needs, claim Trend. By working in the background and frequently ensuring it is up to date with protection against the latest viruses, Trend claim Titanium gives users peace of mind.
Netbook manufacturer Asus has quickly adopted the software, saying it allows users to maintain speed and battery performance without jeopardising security. It is not yet known whether other netbook manufacturers will adopt the software.
