Intel Craves Games for Small Laptops
Fri, 20 Aug 2010
Chip manufacturer Intel has teamed up with The Game Creators to encourage game developers to launch products intended for use on netbook PCs. Despite many netbooks being relatively limited in function, with users predominantly surfing the internet, checking emails and word processing on the mini laptops, Intel and The Game Creators are offering a $5,000 vacation to the developers who produce the best netbook game, and a further $1,000 to those who produce the games with the best standout element, the best graphics and the best game play, with the runners up in these categories ironically receiving an Intel-based netbook.

Owing to the limited nature of netbook PCs, there are a number of restrictions with which developers must contend. The top compressed file size, for example, must not exceed 250MB, while the games must be created using either Dark GDK or DarkBASIC Professional software.

With Intel committed to producing the processors which power many of the netbooks on the market, it is clearly in the chip manufacturers interests that games be developed for the mini notebook platform.
