A new survey from Student Monitor has found that Apple is the most popular laptop manufacturer among students . Dell had previously held top spot among students, though the success of Apple’s Macbook and Macbook Pro notebooks has seen Apple surpass Dell with a 27 per cent share of notebook sales on university campuses compared to Dell’s 24 per cent. Hewlett Packard, Toshiba and Sony occupy third, fourth and fifth places respectively.
The survey, which quizzed 1,200 students across 100 university campuses, also found that the increasing popularity of Apple laptops among students shows no signs of abating, with 47 per cent of students planning on buying a new computer showing a preference for Macbooks . This figure represents a huge increase on the 14 per cent who said they planned to buy an Apple PC five years ago.
It is a different story in the student desktop PC market, however. Apple enjoy a market share of just 14 per cent – considerably lower than both Dell and HP, who share a 45 per cent stake in the market.
