Sony has launched the world’s most powerful ultra portable laptop to date as part of its new VAIO Z range. There’s plenty of technical jargon to back up that claim too! The VAIO VPCZ11Z9E and the VAIO VPCZ11X9E both come with Intel Core processors, 13.1 inch LCD backlit monitors, 1GB Nvidia Geforce GT330M graphics cards, built in optical Blu-ray drives and HDMI outputs, while both are fitted with carbon fibre and aluminium chassis.
It is the Z9E that is the most powerful of the laptops, boasting a 2.66GHz i7-620M chip, 6GB of DDR SDRAM, four 64GB SSDs and a screen resolution of 1920x1080. That X9E is not quite as powerful, with a 2.4GHz Core i5 processor, 4GB DDR3 SDRA, four 32GB SSDs and a screen resolution of 1600x900. The portable PCs could rival many of the desktop computers on the market!
The notebooks come with the 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7 Professional edition, and a built in 3G modem and Bluetooth connectivity are both available.
The laptops, which will become some of the fastest laptops on the market, are not cheap. The X9E is set to cost £1,799, while the Z9E will cost around £2,399, both of which include VAT.
