Survey Suggests Laptop Users May Turn to iPads
Wed, 02 Jun 2010
A new survey by price comparison website Kelkoo has found that British consumers could be ready to ditch their laptops in favour of the new Apple iPad . There have been a spat of surveys recently examining the threat posed by the iPad to the laptop and netbook markets. Kelkoo’s survey questioned 965 self-confessed gadget lovers, asking whether they would be willing to replace their existing laptop with an iPad. 40 per cent of respondents indicated that they would be willing to swap, suggesting that iPads could indeed make inroads into the mini laptops market.

Not all of respondents were convinced by the hype surrounding iPads, however, with 18 per cent of the opinion that iPads will fail to be a success. 32 per cent of these critics could not see the point of the device, while 23 per cent said it was too limited, and 20 per cent said they are waiting for the second generation iPad.

Since Apple unveiled the iPad analysts have sought to compare the new device with notebooks and netbooks, drawing questionable comparisons between the two. While the two may not be hugely similar, it does seem likely that the two will occupy a similar market space.
